How-to books seem to be all the rage today. You can buy a how-to book or go online to learn how to lose weight, play a sport, play an instrument, raise a child, cook a meal, and so much more. There are also “Dummies’ Guide” books for everything. You can learn anything you want by buying a book and reading. If you have a problem, then there is a book for you!
I have often written about loneliness over the years. I once had a conversation with my good friend, Father Frank McFarland, and he told me of all the letters he had received from people talking about being lonely. They talked about how hurt they were and spoke of a pain that was difficult to alleviate. I thought about that conversation a great deal, and that is why I began to write about the subject.
When I was a young boy, I always enjoyed going to visit my grandmother. She was such a joy to be around. All of the grandchildren called her “Mom,” and she would greet us with a big smile and hug and always made us feel special.

When I was young, I was always super excited when the forecast called for a snow storm. As the first flakes began to fall, I would wander into my backyard, lay flat on my back on the ground, and have the snow fall on top of me, hoping it would cover me totally. Of course, this never lasted long, as I would get cold and go back inside for the warmth.
