Don't Put Things Off
I have the bad habit of procrastinating. Why do something today when you can put it off until tomorrow? Like many, I would always say I would do something later or tomorrow. Well, tomorrow would turn into two days later, then a week, until what I was going to do slipped my mind completely and it was forgotten.
But one day, there will be no tomorrow. It can be for many reasons. When my dad died suddenly, anything I might have wanted to say to my dad was lost. I have had friends move who I have lost contact with over the years. There is always so much left unsaid.
There will be a day in the future that will be my last on earth. At that moment, there will be no more tomorrows, and all my good intentions and things left unsaid will be forever gone. It will be an opportunity wasted and lost in hesitation.
If you think about that for a moment, it brings into focus the reality that procrastination brings with it a huge risk. It is a risk of losing the opportunities that are before you—the times you may have thought of telling someone you love them, how much they mean to you, going out to lunch, volunteering to help others, or doing something you always wanted to do but waited. If you keep putting it off, then one day, it will be impossible to achieve.
So today, I ask that you tell those close to you that you love them. If you have had a falling out with someone, then call them and talk to them. If you wanted to volunteer, then do it now. If there is something that you wanted to learn or achieve, then reach for it. Don’t wait. Time is not infinite.
Waiting until tomorrow will lead to regret. Make today the day that you live your life in fullness and start living for today and not tomorrow!
