Pray with... Venerable Fulton Sheen

Archbishop Fulton Sheen Prayer

There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.
-Venerable Fulton Sheen

Archbishop Fulton Sheen has not yet been canonized, but his life is recognized as having been 'heroic in virtue', and we can certainly use his prayers!

Fulton Sheen was a media pioneer, beginning with his radio program in the 1930s, which made him a household name. In 1951, he launched his weekly show, Life is Worth Living, which competed with the highest rated shows on television at the time, won him an Emmy Award, and landed him features in Life and Time. He's widely regarded as having been the first televangelist. He captivated a nation which his careful teaching and zeal for the Gospel, and that's because the Gospel proclaimed well is irresistable to people of good will.

Sheen recognized that countless baptized people were uncatechized, and countless unbaptized people were totally unversed in matters of faith. He saw that people hadn't rejected the true Gospel; they had rejected a distorted Gospel. He worked tirelessly to correct misconceptions, respond to current events through an unapologetic faith-based lens, and spread the contagious joy of the Good News.

Will you join us in asking him to pray for us?

Fulton Sheen, you boldly took to the airwaves
to teach truth, witness to faith and joy,
and share the Good News of Christ's resurrection.
We ask you to pray for us,
that we may use the tools available to us
to recognize where there are misconceptions about our faith,
identify distorted and misleading 'Gospels',
and offer a Truthful alternative.
Ask God to give us enduring hope in our evangelical mission.
Amen

(Pray for the cause of Fulton Sheen's canonization.)
