Venerable Fulton Sheen
CatholicTV Webathon Novena: Day 1
Thank you for dedicating nine days of your Lenten journey to the CatholicTV Webathon Novena. Today, Day 1 of the Novena, we ask Venerable Fulton Sheen to pray for us.
Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was an American priest, bishop, and later archbishop whose influence on the Church is best seen in how he seized radio and telecommunications for evangelization purposes. He was also an accomplished theologian and earned the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy.
Sheen hosted the radio program ‘The Catholic Hour” from 1930-50 and the television shows “Life Is Worth Living” (1952-57) and “The Fulton Sheen Program” (1961-68). He was one of the first televangelists and won an Emmy and two other nominations for his work.
He was declared ‘Venerable’ in June 2012, has had a miracle officially attributed to his intercession, and is awaiting beatification.
Lord, grant us the grace to use digital media wisely and always for Your glory. May all our work seek to reveal your face and make you more loved. Help us to preach the Gospel to all nations and to all people through whatever means we can. We ask this through the intercession of Venerable Fulton Sheen. Amen.
Today, fast from secular media. Check out our blog post on 7 books that are great for Lent, and pick one to start reading.
Your financial support helps keep the faithful connected with the Church and allows us to reach millions of souls who might not otherwise hear the Good News. This year, all donations made to CatholicTV during the Webathon Novena, March 8-16, will be tripled by generous benefactors! If you give $1, CatholicTV receives $3. And each day we will randomly select one donor to receive a rosary blessed by Bishop Reed and a book! If you're able to offer CatholicTV financial support in any amount, you can do so here:
