New Evangelization Novena: Put Jesus first, for He is our only hope

Novena Day 9: Put Jesus first, for He is our only hope

Put Jesus first, for He is our only hope

The New Evangelization is a project that continues far beyond our novena and far beyond Lent. It is a project that lasts for our whole lifetime. This task, though monumental, does not have to frighten us. We can approach this work and everything in our lives with faithful confidence when we keep Jesus at the forefront, knowing that He is our only hope.

Opening Prayer

Lord God, we ask you to pour out your blessings on your Church as we answer your call to the New Evangelization. Grant us the grace to proclaim the Gospel to those who have not yet heard it and to those who have strayed from you, especially through the use of television in CatholicTV’s mission. Help us to see new ways to use the tools of our time to spread your Word to all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” – 1 Corinthians 2:2

Lord Jesus, the tools of the media can be used for good or for ill. Help us to place you in the center of our use of the media so that we may spread the news of your salvation to the ends of the earth. Amen.

Pray with Bishop Reed:

Closing Prayer (from the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis via the USCCB)

Gracious and merciful God,
we pray that through the Holy Spirit
all Catholics may hear the call of the New Evangelization
and seek a deeper relationship with your Son, Jesus.

We pray
that the New Evangelization
will renew the Church
inspiring all Catholics to “go forth and make disciples of all nations”
and transform society through the power of the Gospel.

We pray
for all members of the Church,
that we heed the words of Christ
—“do not be afraid”—
and strengthened by the Holy Spirit’s gift of courage,
give witness to the Gospel
and share our faith with others.

We pray
that we may become
like the father of the prodigal son
—filled with compassion
for our missing brothers and sisters—
and run to embrace them upon their return.

We pray
that all people
yearning to know Christ
and the Church
may encounter him through the faithful
who witness to his love in their lives.

Loving God, our Father,
strengthen us
to become witnesses
to the saving grace of your Son,
Jesus, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
