St. Joseph has long been seen as a role model for husbands and fathers. This is surprising for some people to learn. After all, Jesus’ true father is God the Father, and Joseph served as His foster father during His earthly ministry. Yet, despite Joseph’s unconventional fatherhood, this holy man proved to be the best role model that husbands and fathers could ask for.

July is the Month of the Precious Blood. During this month, we remember our special devotion to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus poured out for us on the cross. The Blood of Christ is the price of our salvation; no other sacrifice could win for us atonement for our sins and eternal life. Having a devotion to the Precious Blood reminds us of our total dependence on God’s mercy and calls us to humble personal atonement.

When Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send us another Advocate. That Advocate is the Holy Spirit, which descended on the disciples at Pentecost and is sealed in each one of us at our Confirmation. The Holy Spirit does not give us magical powers or compel us to act in certain ways against our will. However, the Spirit does give us gifts that we can accept and nurture as we try to become more like Christ.

Here at CatholicTV, we are eagerly preparing for the August 24 Mass of Ordination for Bishop-elect Mark O’Connell and our own Bishop-elect Robert Reed as Auxiliary Bishops of Boston. The Archdiocese of Boston will be blessed to have these two devoted servants of God assisting Cardinal Seán O’Malley in their new roles as Auxiliary Bishops. Those roles are certain to be busy ones, but fortunately, for Bishop-elect Reed, that will include staying on at CatholicTV.
