WATERTOWN, Mass.(May 14, 2015) – On May 15th CatholicTV will welcome Father Jim Berning SDB from the Vocation Ministry for the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order that was founded by St. John Bosco to serve the needs of young people
The Salesian Order was formed in response to a dream that Don Bosco had when he was nine years old that called him to devote himself to the education of youth. Years later, he gathered priest and lay people to form a new religious congregation of the Catholic Church. Don Bosco was inspired by the kind and gentle nature of St. Francis de Sales and decided to name the new order after him. His hope was that his fellow members would adopt the same traits as St. Francis and encourage a lifestyle of holiness to adolescence.
As one of the largest Catholic religious orders, the Salesians of Don Bosco are working on behalf of young people all over the world. Their influence not only stems from the work of the Salesian Priests and Brothers but other groups as well. These groups include: the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Salesian Cooperators, Past Pupils of Don Bosco and Don Bosco Volunteers. For more information on their work please visit: http://www.salesiansofdonbosco.org.
