The Magisterium is the teaching office of the Church. It is the pope in communion with the bishops, divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to interpret the Word of God.  Jesus gave the Church a gift in the Magisterium. Its goal is not to police the faithful into following a set of rules. Rather, it seeks to make the truth of the faith more accessible to all people. After all, Jesus has no intention of being obscure or difficult to understand. God’s Law and Word are for us, and he desires that we accept and live out the truths of the faith with all our hearts. The Magisterium is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

Out of his superfluous love for humanity, Jesus gave us the great gift of his mother Mary. Since she was born without sin, Mary loved God perfectly and can help us to do the same. When we consecrate ourselves to Mary we can be assured that she will help us draw closer to her Son, protect us from the enemy, and intercede on our behalf. Like any good mother, Mary loves us tenderly and wants only our good—which is to be united with Christ. Having been assumed body and soul to heaven, our Blessed Mother is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

Sacred Tradition stands together with Sacred Scripture to give us our beautiful gift of Faith.  Sacred Tradition takes the word of God entrusted by our Lord and the Holy Spirit and gives it to the Apostles and onto their successors...all the way to us, so that we may preserve His word, explain it, live it, and pass it on to make the ends of the earth know about our Lord, Jesus Christ. Now that is gift to truly pass down.  Sacred Tradition is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

We have an army of friends in heaven to look to for inspiration and to rely on for help. The saints are men and women who lived with heroic virtue and now behold God face-to-face in heaven. Learning about the diverse lives of the saints can help us to see that holiness is for everyone, regardless of our state in life. The saints are also powerful intercessors to whom we can turn. Their faithful witness and their heavenly prayers help us to keep fighting the good fight. The Saints are a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

If I told you God had written you a letter, would you read it?  Sacred Scripture is the Word of God. He speaks to us in a human way. The heart of the Lord is brought to through the words of the divinely inspired.  Sacred Scripture teaches us truth and is a guide to our lives. It nourishes our soul and our Christian life.  It has been passed down from generation to generation and brings light to us in dark and difficult times. His Word is “a lamp to my feet as well as a light to my path” (Psalm 119-105).
Sacred Scripture is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

Jesus appointed the apostles and sent them out in to the world, empowering them with the Holy Spirit. Every bishop can trace his succession back to those sent by the Lord, the original shepherds of the Church. It is with this confidence that we look to our bishops as shepherds, to teach, sanctify and govern he Church on earth.  Apostolic Succession is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

The Sacraments are beautiful, grace-giving gifts. When you think of the most special times in life, they are surrounded by the sacraments—Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick.  Each brings Christ into our lives and develops a communion of faith in the Church. It is Christ that is at work in each sacrament. The fruits of each sacrament bring us life and give us the grace of God.  The Sacraments are a gift of the Church and a gift to you

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is our greatest prayer. During Mass, the sacrifice Jesus offered to the Father on the cross becomes present and effective for us. We don’t just watch these sacred mysteries unfold during Mass; we actually take part in them. Though language and ritual might differ, no matter where you go in the world, the Mass is the same. The Mass is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.

The Holy Eucharist is our most treasured gift of the Church. It is the source and summit of our Christian life and stands above all else. As Advent begins, we wait anxiously for the coming of Jesus. Let us remember that Jesus is truly with us at every Mass in the Holy Eucharist. We receive Him and all the graces He bestows upon us. The Holy Eucharist is a gift of the Church and a gift to you.
