From St. Peter’s Square to Your Living Room

Praying with the Holy Father is an incredible, faith-building experience. While few of us are able to do so in person, technology gives us the opportunity to join our hearts in prayer with the pope and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

With Vatican Events on CatholicTV, you can watch Pope Leo XIV’s weekly audiences, papal visits, and special liturgies from wherever you are. Keep reading to learn more about our new Holy Father and the ways you can participate virtually with all that’s happening at the Vatican.

The First American (and Augustinian) Pope

As the Church first mourned the passing of Pope Francis and then eagerly awaited the election of a new pope, few expected the next Holy Father to be an American. When Cardinal Robert Prevost appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s as Pope Leo XIV, it was an exciting moment for the Church in the United States. It was also an honor for the Church in Peru, where the pope spent over 20 years serving as a missionary and then as a bishop, eventually becoming a naturalized citizen.

Pope Leo XIV is also the first Augustinian pope, an active contemplative order that lives by the Rule of St. Augustine of Hippo, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. The Augustinians are known for their work in education, missions, and pastoral ministry. With Pope Leo’s papacy, the Catholic Church eagerly awaits to see what unique perspective the Holy Father will bring from his Augustinian background.
